Numerical investigation of salt-frost damage of pervious concrete at the scale of a few aggregates

In this study, we aim to gain insight into the damage mechanisms of pervious concrete subject frost attacks in presence salt. We perform numerical simulations using a poroelastic model on system geometries representing at scale one or few aggregates: (1) aggregate coated with cement paste, (2) aggregated cracked layer and (3) two aggregates bonded paste. The indicate that is more likely occur contact between aggregates. Furthermore, observe significant shear stress vicinity paste/aggregate interface. undertake thorough parametric study evaluate impact various boundary conditions, initial materials parameters stresses generated during several freeze–thaw cycles. insights can provide guidelines design concretes enhanced durability.
